Brief: To redesign the debut novel of Alan Bissett – one of Scotland’s leading contemporary fiction writers – for it’s tenth anniversary. The brief called for a graphical approach which would loosely complement the designs I had developed previously for the author’s later work – Death of a ladies’ Man and Pack Men.

Result: I explored many of the visual stereotypes associated with ‘Boyracers’, finally settling upon the classic furry dice. A more subtle car reference, the dice also hinted at the youthful and nostalgic nature of the book. The back cover illustration was based upon a description of the car the author had imagined the main protagonists to be driving.
